Well, it's that time again - time for your favorite movie reviewers John & Kyle to give you their picks for the best movies that came out in 2011. As you probably know, we at Burnette Insurance are big fans of movies. But, like last year's list, our list is probably going to be a little different than any other ones you've seen!
(Psst - have you entered our contest yet? Click HERE to tell us your favorite movie from 2011 and be entered to win a pair of movie tickets and a gift card for dinner!)

Hey again! Everyone has been asking me what my top five movies are for 2012! Ok, no one asked except for Kyle when he asked me to write this blog. Anyway, here are my top five movies for 2012!
#1 – Captain America – The First Avenger. I’m not a sucker for every comic book remake but this one is right up there with Iron Man 1 and 2 for me. Loved it!
#2 – Moneyball. If you like baseball, you’ll love this movie. If you get all googly eyed (girls) when you think of Brad Pitt, you may want to skip this one (he spit tobacky juice in a cup throughout).
#3 – Source Code – great movie that makes you think (though not hard or frustrating to follow like Inception) and has you talking about it afterwards. Suspense, thought provoking, and dreamy lead characters – what more could you ask for? (Kyle Note - John is most definitely referring to Jake Gyllenhaal as dreamy)
#4 –Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol - more like Impossible to Believe 4 but I still liked it. What’s a Tom Cruise movie without at least 2 or 3 scenes where he is shown in an all out sprint? He’s not as fast as he used to be but the movie rocks anyway!
#5 – The Way Back – I like Ed Harris. Great movie about escaping from commie Russians in the 1940’s. Big stars in the best movie you never heard of.
Honorable Mention: Super 8 (too many cursing kids to make my top 5), Hugo (didn’t actually see it but I wanted to and couldn’t get my kids to go), Rise of the Planet of the Apes
KYLE'S LIST:

1. Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows part 2 - This was my number one in our half-year list back in August, and there was nothing that came out in the 2nd half of the year that was as stirring, thrilling or emotionally touching as this movie. Confirmed again to me on my third viewing last weekend. What a perfect end to a great series of films. Much better than that other series about vampires and werewolves and moody, emotionally underdeveolped teenagers. (Talking about the planet of the apes, of course)
2. Take Shelter - So, you probably haven't heard of this movie, but you should have! It's a slow burn, but this story about a man whose visions may or may not portend the future is well worth your time and effort in watching. (FYI - this film is rated R for 1-2 outbursts of strong language, but otherwise a very clean movie)
3. The Muppets - "Am I a man, or am I a muppet?" That is the question you'll be asking yourself after you leave this delightful film that captures the laughter and heart that's been missing from the great Muppets for the past 20 years. If you don't tear up a little during the group singing of Rainbow Connection, then you're probably a robot.
4. Crazy Stupid Love - Probably wasn't the funniest comedy of the year, but it was a great story with a great romance. And Steve Carell, the Office misses you!
5. Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol - I'm a pretty big fan of the MI series, and won't go so far as to say this was the best of the series, but it was the most fun. That whole scene in Dubai left my jaw dropped. How did they do that?
Since Johnny had some Honorable Mentions, I will too! Super 8 was a lot of fun, Moneyball was a great movie (but went about 20 minutes too long), Jane Eyre (if you like brooding British guys), and for the arts folks - Tree of Life & Midnight in Paris were pretty great (Tree of Life was also the weirdest movie I saw all year - just don't expect any of it to make sense and watch it for the pretty pictures)
Alright, those are our picks for the tops of 2011! What were your favorites for the year? Was it Captain America, Harry Potter (part 7 part 2), Moneyball?
